There is no doubt that last year, Looe had one of the most successful Decembers in its history. There were a number of events, increased trading opportunities and (generally) happy traders and locals alike. None of which would have been achievable without the hard work and cooperation of the town’s many organisations.
The blue snowflakes on a number of quayside lamp posts were particularly well received last year, as were the new Christmas lights around the Town and the lights on the boats in the Harbour.
However a number of people commented that the next project should be the illumination of the bridge – a well-known Looe landmark. We have therefore worked with the Looe lighting committee to investigate costing various schemes. A final proposal has now been agreed and will include an illuminated display of ships and dolphins on the seaward face of the bridge with the under arch lighting (which will remain illuminated throughout the year once installed). The total cost being in the region of £18,305 + VAT.
Looe Harbour Commissioners have agreed to fund the underbridge lighting and fittings and we are actively seeking donations from businesses towards the cost of the dolphins and ships.
Full details of the proposals are being sent to businesses and organisations, but individuals are welcome to make a contribution too and can obtain further information from the Harbour Commission Office.
