Festival of the Sea

June 7th & 8th 2014

Stalls will be along the quayside in a celebration of the Sea!

Crafts, produce and fresh cooked food will be available.

The famous Looe raft race will take place on Sunday.

A mini Music Festival is being held on Saturday with a Craft Market on Sunday in the Quayside Centre.

St Piran’s Day Celebrations at the Quayside Centre

Usually held in the Rose Garden, Old Cornwall Society celebrated St Piran’s day in the Quayside Centre this year. With songs and dancing, free saffron cake and information regarding St Piran and Looe the day was a great success with a large attendance.

Santa is Coming to Looe!

Friday 6th December is when Santa makes his annual visit to Looe.

He will be arriving by Lifeboat to East Looe this year for a change. He will arrive at the steps, with two of his special reindeer, by the War Memorial in the Harbour car park at approx. 6.30pm. A procession will lead him around the town and over the bridge to West Looe where he will take up residence in the Quayside Centre’s Fishermen’s shelter for the evening.

To welcome him to West Looe there will be Craft and Produce stalls, Hot chestnuts, Mulled wine, Mince pies and lots more. The Huckleberry Finns and Samba Kernow will play Christmassy music during the festivities (sponsored by Looe Music Festival) which will commence at 5pm and finish at 9pm.

Bring the whole family for an evening which will bring Christmas magic to Looe!

Free parking all day on Saturdays in December 2013 in East and West Looe Harbour car parks!

Lantern Procession & Lights Switch On

Friday 29th November 2013 – There will be three processions assembling at approximately 6.30pm.

  • The Rose Garden, East Looe
  • The Globe Inn, East Looe
  • The Millpool, West Looe

Converging on the bridge and culminating at the Quayside Centre, West Looe at approx. 7pm for a carol service and formal switch on of the Christmas lights. During this service there will be a collection for the Mayor’s Charity, followed by soup and rolls kindly provided by SECTA.

Dog Show in Aid of Macmillan Support

Held on August 4th and raised money for Macmillan. A great afternoon for all!

Church Service for those with a love of the Sea

A church service was held in the Quayside Centre on Sunday 7th July for those with a love of the sea (and anyone else!). Organised by Alison Foulkes, the evening was a great success!

Plaque Reinstated

The plaque to remember the lives of those lost at sea from the Port of Looe has been reinstated, after refurbishment.

Queens Diamond Jubilee

Saturday 2nd – Tuesday 5th June 2012 : Looe Harbour is joining in the Jubilee weekend fun. A team of willing members of staff will be taking part in the beach games and raft race over the fun filled weekend.

The theme of the weekend is the ’50’s’. So dress up your windows, wear fancy dress from the era and join in party atmosphere in the town where the restaurants and cafe’s will be offering special 50’s menus and music will be playing the songs of the day!

There is a whole programme of events planned in Looe for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations, including;

Grazing on the Quay, treasure hunts, a Royal exhibition in the museum and traditional sports on the beach!

On Sunday 3rd June the Coast to Coast cycle ride leaves Banjo Pier headed for Barnstaple, with up to 400 cyclists heading through Looe!

The Grand lighting of the Beacon takes place on Monday 4th June, with celebrations starting at 6pm. The beacon will be lit at approximately 10pm.

Run in aid of Fishermen’s Mission

David Hunt of West Looe is running the London Marathon on 22nd April 2012 and hoping to raise £2000 for the Fishermen’s Mission. David is dedicating his run to his friend Neil Murray, a well known and much loved Looe fisherman who was sadly killed at sea in March 2011.

David will be holding a fundraising evening of Friday 9th March 2012 at the Copley Arms in Hessenford from 7.30pm, please join in an evening of fun which includes an auction and entertainment by vocalist Rachel Bradburn.

School Visits to the Port of Looe

School children are always welcome to visit with their teachers and classmates (please contact the Harbour Office if you are interested in a guided tour).

The Harbour Master is very friendly and the children love seeing the Crabs, fish and how the Market runs in Looe.

Christmas Party Night 2011

Looe Harbour Commissioners recently held their first Christmas Party for the Staff and Commissioners since the Commission was founded in 1848.

All Staff, Commissioners and partners were present for a night of eating, dancing and making merry at the local Hannafore Point Hotel in Looe.

Hopefully, this event will become a regular date in the Harbour Commissioners diary!
